Feel like something ‘Chocolatey? It seems obvious, if you want to lose weight don’t eat chocolate, right? In fact, research has shown the opposite to be when it comes to dark chocolate. Occasionally indulging in the dark-stuff has been shown to decrease blood pressure and reduce cravings for salty, sweet and fatty foods. Look for choc treats that contain nuts & whole grains. You’ll feel fuller for longer and better curb your appetite until the next meal.
However the very popular Whole30 diet, which requires adherents to cut all processed foods, legumes, grains, dairy, alcohol, and added sugar for 30 days, came in 38th place, aka dead last, in the “overall” category, following suit with other trendy diets that have come before it (like the Dukan Diet). Whole30 came in at No. 37 (of 38) when ranked for helping with weight loss, diabetes, or heart disease, and landed the No. 17 spot on the magazine’s “Best Diets for Fast Weight Loss” list.
The Bad: The body is designed to constantly regulate its pH, and the pH varies in different parts of the body (consider the pH of the stomach with hydrochloric acid). There is little, if any, research to suggest that food choices impact the overall pH of the body, as well as little to support that alkaline food choices improve health. Some followers go as far as using pH test strips to check the pH of their urine – not a daily activity that I really want to take on, nor one that appears to any real scientific basis. Finally, knowing which foods are acidic, neutral, or alkaline is not something intuitive or listed on the label – meaning memorizing “acidic” and “alkaline” food choices is necessary to follow the eating plan.
There is a better way: Swap the all-or-nothing approach for one or two healthy switch-ups in your daily routine. “Doing this can lead to more weight loss than you ever imagined,” says Marissa Lippert, RD, author of The Cheater’s Diet.
Unlike soda’s and other ready-made drinks, you can pick and choose your own smoothie ingredients based on your mood, taste and weight loss goals. Better yet, their creamy texture takes up extra room in your stomach, meaning you won’t be hungry again in an hour. Whip up one for breakfast, before or after your workout or as a meal replacement, anytime of the day.
Read Joel Hector’s amazing story of losing 100 pounds in 100 days. “Going from 4XL to XL shirts, and losing 20 inches in my waist… it’s been incredible! I don’t think I have ever felt this good. I attribute 100% of my success to the Pritikin Longevity Center in Miami.”
Experts are concerned that, in some cases, the side effects of prescription medications to treat overweight and obesity may outweigh the benefits. For this reason, you should never take a weight-loss medication only to improve the way you look. In the past, some weight-loss medications were linked to serious health problems. For example, the FDA recalled fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine (part of the “fen-phen” combination) in 1997 because of concerns related to heart valve problems.
There’s a key difference between how supplements are regulated versus how medications or other drugs are. Dietary supplements are considered safe until proven unsafe, while the opposite is true of prescription drugs: They’re kept out of the public’s hands until clinical trials show they’re generally effective and also unharmful to the majority of patients taking them.
“Nuts are a superior weight loss food in my book. They offer plenty of protein, healthy fat, and fiber that can really take the edge off hunger at any meal or snack. Nuts are also so versatile and convenient. They can be mixed into oatmeal or yogurt at breakfast, paired with fruit as a snack, or tossed into a hearty salad for a little satisfying crunch at lunch. — Michelle Loy, MPH, MS, CSSD, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and owner of Go Wellness in Orange County, California

You want to look not only for the number of followers on these social accounts, but also pay attention to the type of content is being posted, how often, and user engagement. Scams, if they have social accounts at all, usually don’t spend the time and effort to publish good, useful content. As a result, they have very little interaction with their audience. Poor content, few likes and comments is a signal that this product or company could be poor quality or a scam.
” Personally, I love the gym. I love being around people who are sweaty and pushing themselves, who are all focused on the same goals. I love being in a group like that. ” – Cameron Diaz, American Actress
Got plans to lose weight this year? If so, don’t rely on pills, powders, and creams you see pitched on late-night infomercials or the web. The Federal Trade Commission this week cracked down on four marketers of those weight-loss products, announcing that they will have to refund consumers a total of $34 million.
“When clients come to me, many of them have been through the diet wringer. They’ve tried every fad and gimmick and, of course, they’ve failed to maintain long-term success. The key to weight loss is to never feel like you’re on a diet, because diets don’t work. If you feel deprived, you will never make it past a few weeks. The only way to achieve long-term weight loss is to learn to appreciate food as fuel and slowly replaced processed food that cannot properly energize the body with real food that can. After a while this will become second nature and won’t feel like a daily struggle.” — Laura Burak, MS, RD, CDN
Regardless of where you stand, the fact is that the Paleo way of eating is becoming increasingly popular, as are “nutritional reset” programs based upon Paleo, such as the Primal Blueprint 21-day Challenge hosted by Marks Daily Apple, or the Whole30 program, popularized by the New York Times bestseller, It Starts with Food: Discover the Whole30 and Change Your Life in Unexpected Ways (Est. $15).
Since no foods are eliminated, this plan is a healthy way to lose weight for those who are in overall good health. Numerous research studies show that intermittent fasting plans, such as the 5/2 diet, have numerous health benefits, including a longer lifespan!
The easiest way how to lose weight by cutting calories is to find out what your ‘maintenance’ level is and then reduce your daily calorie intake by between 10-20%. Then it’s a matter of tracking what you’re eating to make sure you’re consistently in a calorie deficit. The size of the calorie deficit will determine how quickly you lose weight. However, if you’re overly aggressive and try to ‘crash diet’, then you risk losing more muscle than fat.
Switch it up. It’s too easy to develop a routine…and then get bored with it. Either your muscles get bored or your mind gets bored or both. And when this happens, you actually burn fewer calories — you’re pushing yourself less hard. So switch it up! Either mess around with duration or intensity or do a completely new activity. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
Support, either in-person or online, is another key to successful dieting. The best diets offer support from both trained counselors and fellow dieters. In addition, studies show that those who keep track of their food and activity are ultimately more successful at losing weight. This personal accountability can help you shed pounds whether you follow a commercial diet program or choose a self-directed diet.
When you are planning to lose weight quickly without starving your body, the best way is to fill out your daily diet with more dietary fibers. Now the good thing is that, most of the foods like the green vegetables that come with a lot of dietary fibers, are also high in minerals and vitamins which can actually nourish the body. Fibers fill the hunger easily without adding to the calorie and hence when you are trying to lose weight in 10 days, load up your diet with all the green and leafy vegetables that are rich with fibers.
