Looking to lose weight fast in a healthy way? It’s tempting to turn to quick fixes like taking weight loss pills marketed as natural “fat burners.” In fact, surveys show that approximately 15 percent of U.S. adults have now used weight-loss dietary supplements at some point in their lives, with more women (around 20 percent) reporting use compared to men. (1) But before experimenting with these products, consider the fact that most diet pills, drinks and formulas (even those labeled “natural”) are capable of causing a range of unexpected side effects and interactions.

2. After the juice cleanse, drink plenty of water (room temperature is best as drinking iced water can be harsh for the digestive system) with a few slices of lemon, limes, (and in the summer you can add sliced cucumbers) to keep body hydrated, your skin radiant and to keep your stomach filled. Also, most often than not, when you feel the sensation of being hungry it can be thirst. Have an 8oz glass of lemon water before eating any food, wait 10 minutes, and if still hungry, eat your food. Leave at least two hours or more between intakes of food so your body can have time to digest. Notes: Make sure the lemon water is homemade, lemonade sold in stores is packed with sugar. Also, when making your own lemon water, make sure you do not add any sugar.
Losing weight requires diet and about 3½ to 5 hours a week of exercise. During these cold winter months, the right home exercise equipment can help you reach your weight and fitness goals. A treadmill can be a good choice. But if you are heavy or have back, knee, or hip problems, consider a nonimpact elliptical. If you’re competitive, try a home rower or spin bike.

Sleeping may possibly be the laziest way to lose weight ever. During a 6-year study, Canadian researchers observed the connection between sleep patterns and obesity and found that people who slept 5 to 6 hours a night gained 4.5 pounds more than those who dozed for 7 to 8 hours nightly. While many studies suggest that sleep deprivation increases levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition determined that lack of sleep can also slow the rate at which calories are burned. Swedish researchers found that even a single night of skimping on sleep slows metabolism the next morning and reduces the number of calories burned while performing automatic tasks, like breathing and digesting food, by 5 to 20%, compared with the morning after a good night’s rest.

The truth: While it’s likely true that the balloon makes you feel full, there’s a small possibility that the balloon could get lodged in the stomach, which could cause anything from vomiting to death. If that wasn’t terrifying enough, you also run the risk of the balloon stretching the stomach or the esophagus. This would likely cause inflammation which could result in an ulcer, internal bleeding, or infection. Thankfully, this product is not yet available for sale in the U.S.—and we’re hoping it stays this way. If you’re in search of a better way to drop the pounds, check out these 50 Ways to Lose 10 Pounds—Fast. No balloon-eating required.
3. Keep your workout efficient and wear a heart rate monitor. If your goals are to lose weight you need to train entirely different then if you are trying to improve your endurance. So why would you leave it as a guessing game if you have a set goal that you want to achieve? My all time favorite model is the “Polar FT 60 Heart Rate Monitor.” My suggestion is to use this tool to aid in an interval training circuit 3x a week followed by cardio intervals. Get off the machines and incorporate stability exercises as well as full body movements into your workouts. This will not only help you improve your stability, strength, endurance, but also target your deep intrinsic muscles that support your core. You will then kill two birds with one stone getting in your strength and cardio training in one shot. By monitoring your heart rate throughout you will leave the gym energized instead of exhausted. AS you start to condition yourself over time you will naturally be forced to challenge yourself in new ways in order to achieve your goals and elevate your heart rate.

Popularized by the documentary Forks Over Knives, the Ornish diet is a low-fat, plant-based diet plan based on whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes. It’s based on a lacto-ovo style of vegetarianism, allowing only egg whites and nonfat dairy products. It’s packed with vitamins, fiber, and lots of filling plants to keep you satiated. Some studies have shown it can reverse heart disease and have beneficial effects on other chronic health conditions. (BTW, there is a difference between a vegan diet and a plant-based diet.)
