Among commercial diets, the Mayo Clinic Diet— which follows a unique food pyramid— ranked first, while Weight Watchers’ point-based system took first place for the best weight-loss diet. For fast weight loss, U.S. News tied Weight Watchers and the HMR Program, which uses meal replacements with additional fruits and veggies, in the No. 1 slot.
That’s where U.S. News & World Report’s Best Diets list aims to help. The consumer advice website has released its annual report on what it deems the 38 best diet plans across nine categories, including those programs that are ideal for fast weight loss and healthy eating, as well as those that are most helpful for people prone to diabetes and heart disease.
Topping our list at #2 is Staunch’s Burning Man, a clinically backed fat burner powered by the science of thermogenesis. Burning Man attacks fat with a three pronged approach, by improving thermogenisis, suppressing appetite, and reducing body fat. Blended with 1000 mg of L-Carnitine Tartrate, 100 mg of Capsimax (active capsaicinoids with patented OmniBead technology for best delivery and absorption), and 10 mg of Thermodiamine
Studies found that people who keep food diaries wind up eating about 15 percent less food than those who don’t. Watch out for weekends: A University of North Carolina study found people tend to consume an extra 115 calories per weekend day, primarily from alcohol and fat. Then cut out or down calories from spreads, dressings, sauces, condiments, drinks, and snacks; they could make the difference between weight gain and loss.
Another thing I’d like to point out is that if you suffer from a medical condition like High blood pressure, diabetes, or really any other condition, I would 100% recommend that you speak with your doctor before jumping in to any of these.
In a skillet coated with 2 teaspoons olive oil, sauté 2 cups baby spinach and 1 cup shredded potato until golden and tender. Whisk together 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites; add to skillet. Top scramble with 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of black pepper; serve with 1/2 cup grapes.
If you’ve checked off all your boxes and you’re still hungry, add extra servings of foods from the vegetable or bean group to your plate. Is this too much food for you? Cut out the sweets first, then subtract a grain serving or two. However, you shouldn’t cut your calories too low. Most people should never go below 1200 calories per day.
“One of the keys to long-term and sustainable weight loss is to cut total calorie intake, and there’s no better way to do that than by eating just a little bit less of what you currently eat. Once you get into a habit of reducing portions—especially of sugary, fatty and other nutrient-poor foods—you can fine tune your diet to incorporate more nutrient-rich foods. But paring portions is still the best first step.” — Elisa Zied, MS, RDN, CDN, author of Younger Next Week
Unlike soda’s and other ready-made drinks, you can pick and choose your own smoothie ingredients based on your mood, taste and weight loss goals. Better yet, their creamy texture takes up extra room in your stomach, meaning you won’t be hungry again in an hour. Whip up one for breakfast, before or after your workout or as a meal replacement, anytime of the day.
All meals are important, but breakfast is what helps you start your day on the right track. The best, heartiest breakfasts are ones that will fill you up, keep you satisfied, and stave off cravings later in the day. Aim to eat anywhere between 400 and 500 calories for your morning meal, and make sure you’re including a source of lean protein plus filling fat (e.g., eggs, beans, unsweetened Greek yogurt, nuts, or nut butters) and fiber (veggies, fruit, or 100% whole grains). Starting your day with a blood sugar-stabilizing blend of nutrients will help you slim down without sacrifice.
The flexitarian diet came in third on the list of best overall diets for its emphasis on whole grains, fruits, veggies and plant-based proteins. It’s basically a vegetarian diet that allows the occasional piece of meat or fish, thus making it “flexible.”
One sweet serving has no more than 1 gram of fat and equals 100 kcal. You should have no more than 1 sweets serving per day. Your sweets should be fat free. Try fruit if you are craving sweets. Other low-fat ideas include a bowl of sweetened whole grain cereal with low-fat soymilk, a soymilk/fruit smoothie, or sautéed bananas or apples (in water and a bit of maple syrup) with a little cinnamon.

Getting enough decent sleep is also important to ensure a healthy hormone balance. Your body produces the most testosterone and growth hormone at night, which are key hormones for better body composition. Quality sleep also reduces the stress hormone called cortisol. When we’re sleep deprived, cortisol increases in order to keep your body running – but the result of this is lower ‘real’ energy, fatigue, food cravings and mental fog.
2. Timing is everything. Drink water (1/2 your body weight in oz) in between the meals to properly cleanse and hydrate without interfering with the digestion. Strive to maintain a least a 4 hour window between meals for proper digestion and a surge in human growth hormone that will whittle your middle. Shoot to have a full 12 hour fast between dinner and breakfast, this will ensure your organs are getting the chance to detox appropriately and speed up weight loss. Aim for at least 8 quality hours of sleep in a cool, silent, blacked out room.
Safer and more natural fat burners for helping with weight loss include eating fat-burning foods, consuming the nutrients CLA or chromium, consuming probiotics, drinking green tea, and using grapefruit essential oil.
Each one of the profiles gives comprehensive information on exactly how the diet works, ruling on whether the claims made added up or were found to be lacking, and determining whether any possible risks to the health of consumers could be found.
Feel like something ‘Nibbly’ or ‘Spicy’? Whip up a dip with some whole grain crackers/bread, vegetables, mixed nuts or roasted peas and beans. You’ll boost dietary fibre and antioxidant’s and clock up essential nutrients like Zinc and vitamin E. Before you crack open that calorie-laden dip from the supermarket, take a page from the Italians and make your own instead. Simply combine 100g of chopped anchovies packed in olive oil with one tablespoon each of minced garlic and fresh rosemary. Heat on low for 10mins, then add a pinch of salt and fresh cracked pepper and let the dipping begin!
Ingredients: In the past, fat burning pills always included Ephedrine as the main ingredient in their formulations because of how well it worked. But because it is banned for sale over the counter, there are a new breed of fat burning ingredients that are much safer and still produce remarkable results. Look for products containing Yohimbine HCL, Synephrine HCL, 2-Phenylethylamine (PEA) and Hordenine. You can find herbal fat burners that usually contain Green Tea Extract, Green Coffee Extract, Capsicum Extract (Cayenne Pepper) and Rapberry Ketones.
Think of the Ketogenic Diet as a low-carb version of an already low-carb diet, so low in carbs that most variations of the diet average only about 5 percent of calories from carbs – approximately 25 grams eating around 2,000 calories. The goal of this diet is to put the body in a state of ketosis, something that’s suggested to increase the body’s breakdown of fat stores for energy due to a lack of glucose from carbohydrates. Meals are based around meats, poultry, fish, eggs, higher-fat dairy (like butter, cheese, and cream), healthy fats (like oils, nuts, seeds, and avocados), and vegetables that are low in carbohydrates (like green vegetables, tomatoes, onions, squash, peppers, etc.). All starchy vegetables, grains, fruits, dairy such as milk and yogurt, natural and refined sugars and sweeteners – or anything that would increase carb intake to above 5 percent of calories – should be avoided.
People who follow the volumetrics diet—also tied for fifth place—are told to pay attention to the energy density in foods, which is the number of calories in a certain amount of food. Foods that have high energy density will have lots of calories for a little amount of food, whereas low energy density foods have fewer calories for more food.

Apples are a great source of potassium, and likewise, apple cider vinegar, taken on a regular basis, will contribute the potassium you need to help balance the sodium in your diet. In fact, try replacing salt in your diet with apple cider vinegar. Use it to top foods you might be tempted to salt, such as vegetables or protein foods. A little vinegar over a plate of beans is a regional favorite in many parts of America.
We see very few downsides to Weight Watchers. Even though it’s fee-based, the fees are pretty reasonable. Everyone pays a $20 registration fee (although that’s often waived as an incentive to sign up, especially December through March). Then, membership fees are as low as $20 a month for online only. You can even pay-as-you-go if you want to attend meetings just occasionally; it costs about $15 per meeting. There are also pricier plans available that provide you with individual coaching sessions. Regardless of the plan you choose, experts say you get a lot for your money, especially in online tools and support. However, if you’re on a tight budget, these fees may still be a bit too steep. The only other complaint we noted is that some people say they feel hungry all the time or often in spite of the plethora of food choices, but we see that with virtually all diets as calorie restriction tends to have that result.
While there are many weight loss products available on the market, most are designed to be used by a vast audience. Unfortunately, this means they aren’t tailored to your specific needs. You might find that a weight loss supplement designed specifically for women provides you with better results. These supplements take into account differences between women and men, and may be formulated to work with your hormones to provide efficient, safe weight loss. Before using any supplements, be sure to consult a medical professional.

Unfortunately, dieting and calorie restriction can also lower testosterone levels. This is especially important if you are heavily restricting fats. The only way around this fact is having a healthy but modest caloric restriction and a exercise regimen in place. Lifting weights is known to improve testosterone levels.
Food for thought: Moskovitz considers Volumetrics one of the best options for weight loss. The diet plan teaches you the caloric value of foods without the need to track everything you eat. It’s not disruptive to your lifestyle either. Simply choose low-calorie foods that fill you up. Volumetrics is also a great option for weight maintenance, she says.
